Twip Photo

So being the photo lover I am I try to find as much information about photography as possible, whether it be a tutorial, a review or a podcasts I try to glean as much as I can from them. One podcast I listen to is This week in photography which is just a general photo podcast which has varying topics. While there is lots of information to be gleaned from these professionals I can't help but notice how egotistical some of the hosts are. I understand that you make your living shooting photographs, but do you need to point out on every single show how many mega pixels your camera has or how much you spent on the camera body and lenses. Its wonderful that you have Canon EOS 1D Mark III with many L-series lenses, but you can take a beautiful picture with a Holga, and still make a large print.

I'm sure there are lots of big egos in the photo world, but I'm sure there are egos in all groups and you just have to get used to them. I think one of my goals in life is no matter how successful or unsuccessful (hopefully successful) that I will never be a photo snob.

(The photo has nothing to do with this post, but I'm just a fan of the photo, plus its not shot with top of the line equipment. Just my D40 a kit lens, and an almost 20 year old flash.)

Dirty Sensor!!!

"Save this batch"

Every time I upload photos to flickr the final step is to save the group of photos, which are in batches. Of course flickr never meant it to be read this way, but whenever I see the "save this batch" button I always read it as "Save this, BATCH!" a la "these shoes are mine, batch!"

Just some insight into how I think...

Update! Part 2

Update!

At the behest of a friend and tp not being the worst blogger in the world I give you an update!

A change of environment is always nice, but its a bit of a pain to get used to. Especially once one is very accustomed to one's previous environment. In a word I am home. However college is far more exciting, and I'd like to go back. Not because of friends or anything, I love my friends here, its just the ease of going about philly is nicer, and I can talk to people about design, and especially I have photo buddies. Now this could easily just turn into a rant, and it might very well become just that as I am very frustrated by being home. I want to go places and take photos, but I lack the initiative and planning skills to do that here, in Philly it was basically "lets walk somewhere!" which I love, but here its a drive no matter what. Maybe the problem is not with other people, but with me. I need to find more initiative to make plans and go on photoshoots. So enough with this blogging (until I have some more to write about) Its photo time!

Old People

I love old people. They can be charming, charismatic, cool or just down right cold hearted. But the cool ones are my favorites. The people who will have a conversation with you, or just let you take their photograph. I've found a great way to be able to take someone's photograph is to just have a genuine conversation with them first. Sometimes people will even prompt you to take their picture.

Today for example I was walking around with my camera and a lady, jokingly, suggested I take her picture. Not one to miss an opportunity I took her up on the offer and eventually I got her and her co-worker interacting in the shot. Unfortunately the pictures turned out to be out of focus, which is why this post starts with a photograph of an old man and not them. I'll just have to try again another day, and this time remember to focus.

Focus, focus, focus,
Evan

Hello World

In the history of the web there have been many monumental events...

This is probably not one of them.

This is just the ramblings of a young photographer who on rare occasions tries to string words together to form coherent thoughts and ideas. I realize for a blog to be interesting it must have an interesting premise, so whenever I am not rambling about what is currently on my mind I promise to be as interesting as possible, or if all else fails just give all you readers some lovely images to to look at. Hopefully all works out, and I learn some css to make this page look better.

best of luck,
Evan
